SINGLE REVIEW: Hein Cooper – Like That

After his intimate run of headline shows, Hein Cooper has announced his highly anticipated sophomore studio album ‘Underneath It All’ will be released on June 14. To coincide with this announcement he’s also released his new single ‘Like That’ which hears him delivering a fresh new sound which further explores his folk/indie-pop stylings. Layered with acoustic guitar this sound adds a whole new feeling and emotion as the song launches into this upbeat production that almost sounds pulsated in the most organic way. Reflecting on the relationships we have and the disconnection we have to life, he questions his loneliness and how he could stop feeling this way. “Tell me all of this is ours if we try. Tell me something just like that”. The base of the acoustic guitar is very melodic and reminds me of Sufjan Stevens’ ‘Mystery Of Love’ with it’s gentle approach. But he then layers it with heavier guitars, piano and drums which makes this song into something bigger and bolder. This is a very exciting direction for Hein to head towards and I hope this is a genuine taste of what’s to come.
