SINGLE REVIEW: Alex Lahey – Am I Doing It Right?

Alex Lahey is a songwriter who just gets it. Her honesty is raw. Her storytelling is quirky. And her uniqueness is undefining. Her debut EP and album cemented her key status in the Australian music industry with a string of overseas shows that introduced her sound to the world. On the back of a successful year of non-stop touring, the Melbourne singer-songwriter is welcoming her sophomore record ‘The Best Of Luck Club’ to the world and along with it is another string of honest and catchy tracks. Serving as the second single, ‘Am I Doing It Right?’ is a confessional that reflects on being a musician and not having a set path to follow. She constantly finds herself questioning if she’s doing everything right because she’s unsure what is right and what is wrong in this industry. “You may think I’ve got nothing to lose but am I doing it right when I make everyone move?”. She backs these honest lyrics up with some unique references that really adds in the natural Alex Lahey charm. “Everything was squeaky clean like a first trip to Disneyland”. Sonically this song sits in the alternative rock sound her debut album comfortably sat in and gives you a punchy hook with gritty guitar riffs. It’s a track that is ready to be played live and ready for a crowd to sing back to her.
