The return of Ciara is a little underrated but we need to be talking about it STAT. ‘Level Up’ and ‘Dose’ were bold moments of pure energy that showed listeners that she could still write a catchy as fuck track that would become stuck on your mind and have you picturing insane choreography. She followed it up with the stripped back ‘Greatest Love’ which showed a more intimate side before taking it back to the 80’s for her new synth-soaked track. ‘Thinkin’ Bout You’ comes along with the announcement that her seventh studio album ‘Beauty Marks’ will finally be unleashed on May 10 and the first through her own imprint label. The loved up track will give you serious Janelle Monae and Prince vibes with it’s groovy guitar riff mixed in with the playfulness of an 80’s Madonna. The pulsating synth beat will have you instantly nodding your head and tapping your foot along as the song takes you on a flirty storyline of crushing on someone. “I’ve been thinkin’ ’bout you. Wondering who’s stuck in your head at night. Wonder if I ever cross your mind. Keeping you up in your bed at night”. It’s just a carefree and playful pop song that might not hold a lot of substance but it doesn’t need to. It’s a lot of fun and will have you gushing along with her as soon as the hook drops. Sonically it’s quite different to all the other songs we have heard from this record other than just living under the umbrella of the pop sphere. So it will be interesting to see if this is a standalone track or if she follows it up with another synth soaked anthem.
