Thandi Phoenix is one of Australia’s best live acts and that’s a big call to make because she’s still one of Australia’s most underrated acts. But she is a powerhouse vocalist and an incredible live performer who continually steps her game up and delivers a show to remember. Opening for the likes of Tinashe, Jhene Aiko, Rudimental and Vera Blue in the past she has adapted different sounds and emotions into her atmosphere to create something a little different and memorable. For her new single ‘Say It’ from her forthcoming EP, she’s teamed up with Sigma for a bit of a dance anthem. ‘Say It’ combines the drum n bass pop blend she’s incorporated into her music over the years and delivers a rhythmic sound with a whole lot of energy and heart. It reflects on the power of vulnerability and that desire we all have for people to be transparent and honest about their feelings. “Say it, do you want me now? Say it, do you need me now? Confess to me”. The chorus radiates this nostalgic feeling that takes you back to the early 90’s when the clubs were bumping this polished sound every night. It has a classic dance sound to it which makes it stand out compared to the likes of Rudimental who have mastered the drum n bass sound on commercial radio. It continues the polished sound her music has gravitated towards but it would be interesting to hear another offbeat DIY track like ‘Standing Too Close’ or ‘Come Around’.
