SINGLE REVIEW: The Chainsmokers feat. 5 Seconds Of Summer – Who Do You Love

It was the collaboration that I don’t think anyone saw coming. The Chainsmokers and 5 Seconds Of Summer have both individually had some massive success but does that mean they should come together for a song? I’m not entirely sure but it’s happened anyways. ‘Who Do You Love’ is a rock-pop crossover which takes 5SOS’s recent groovy 80’s inspired sound and throws in some heavier electronic influences. Reflecting on a relationship that seems to be dying, Luke Hemmings questions the loyalty of his partner as he starts to put little pieces together of a bigger puzzle. “Cause you’ve been acting so conspicuous. You flip it on me, say I think too much. We’re moving different while we’re making love”. Production wise this song doesn’t stray too far away from what you would expect from a recent 5SOS song until the beat breakdown which seems a little disowned. It felt like it was thrown in there just because it needed to be, not because it felt like it should be in there. It’s apart of The Chainsmokers identity and I guess they didn’t want to lose that but this song didn’t really need it.
