SINGLE REVIEW: Meg Mac – Something Tells Me

By now we all know that Meg Mac can sing. Because she can. She’s powerful, captivating and has this magical hold on the listener. But it’s safe to say that some of her music is becoming a little repetitive and familiar and her new single ‘Something Tells Me’ is a perfect representation of this. On it’s own it’s a strong and captivating song but when you put it with the rest of discography it struggles to stand out. With a similar chord progression and beat production to ‘Low Blows’, and ‘Maybe It’s My First Time’ the song fails to give you that same impact you had when you listened to her debut album. The song reflects on realising that in your past you may have let people shape your decisions and thought processes but deciding you want to change that and grow as a human. By making this realisation you start to actively form your own decisions and pave your own path which hears her confessing “I’m better when you’re gone”. It’s a powerful sentiment that on it’s own creates a cool moment but compared to everything else she’s down it just sounds the same and sits in predictable territory.
