SINGLE REVIEW: Dean Lewis – 7 Minutes

Following the massive success of ‘Be Alright’, ‘Waves’ and ‘Chemicals’, Dean Lewis has experienced a very rare level of fame. With sold out shows all over the world, songs featuring on massive TV shows and number one singles topping the charts without even releasing an album is not an easy feat. With his debut record finally scheduled to be released in 2019, he’s dropped a new single that is guaranteed to follow it’s precedors in success. ‘7 Minutes’ is an emotional retelling of the immediate aftermath of a break-up where you question if you did the right thing by ending it. “It’s been seven minutes now since I’ve lost my way. It doesn’t seem that long but my whole world has changed”. Beginning at the start as he leaves her place, he immediately questions if he did the right thing. He reminisces on all the good times as he drives past all the familiar places before realising where he went wrong. “Now I know how I let you down. Oh, I finally figured it out. I forgot to love you”. It’s a very honest and beautiful track that takes you on a rollercoaster of emotion but shows growth in his songwriting. This is by far his strongest release yet which is exciting to come after the massive success of ‘Be Alright’. But the progression this song shows is super strong. Not only is it catchy and memorable, but he tells a unique and relatable story that will translate well to audiences globally.
