SINGLE REVIEW: Ariana Grande – 7 Rings

Ariana Grande is really proving that she can do anything and she’s not letting critics, ex-boyfriends or anything get in her way. ‘7 Rings’ is a continuation of her shift into RNB-pop music and continues the mid-tempo slow jam sound that ‘Thank U, Next’ injected. It’s sort of the next chapter as it goes from self-empowerment to the hype and empowerment that your friends and people around you give you in some of your darkest moments. It has a heavy trap influence that will give you that “flex” feel which has already gained comparisons to Soulja Boy and Princess Nokia. However this song is different in it’s own way. Whilst she does credit ‘Favourite Things’ she recreates it to this slick “started from the bottom now we’re here” energy. “Been through some bad shit, I should be a sad bitch. Who woulda thought it’d turn me to a savage? Rather be tied up with calls and not strings. Write my own checks like I write what I sing”. She immediately just owns her sadness and the hard times an turns it into a coping mechanism. And this song is all about uplifting the people around you and just celebrating life. It’s fun, quirky and catchy. And another hit under her belt.
