SINGLE REVIEW: XIRA – Sleep Talker

Earlier this year Sydney singer-songwriter XIRA introduced to us the experimental and sultry vibes of ‘Locks Changed’. After clocking in over 14,000 streams on Spotify alone she’s decided to drop a even bigger song for your new music playlists. ‘Sleep Talker’ is one of those songs that you can’t help but love on a first listen. Following a similar production structure to Julia Michaels and recent Selena Gomez, XIRA delivers DIY pop beats along with an intriguing and seductive vocal delivery. It has this very dreamy approach that glides over the hook and while the production doesn’t dramatically shift she still elevates her vocal delivery to give you that change. The playful idea originates from her fear of sleep talking and saying something embarrassing unconsciously. And let’s be honest, we’ve all been there. We’ve all started seeing someone new and been terrified to fall asleep because what if you sleep talk or snore or say something embarrassing? But we do it anyway, because we are all human. “Oops, I talk in my sleep. I didn’t mean to tell you so soon. What did I do?”. It has this really playful and cool layering to it which is so enticing and has you wanting to push replay over and over again. It’s a very strong follow up to ‘Locks Changed’ and shows a strength in her songwriting skills.
