SINGLE REVIEW: Sasha Sloan – Older

Over the past year Sasha Sloan has delivered us a lot of honest truths. Her ‘sad girl’ music has become the soundtrack to many ups and downs over the course of the year and has cemented herself as one of the most exciting newcomers. Her songwriting is extraordinary with this layer of honesty that a lot of artists struggle to tap into. There are no hidden messages or obscure metaphors. Just a lot of heart and brutal honesty. Her new single ‘Older’ is another one of these raw and honest moments that will have you reflecting on your childhood and the pain you may have gone through recently. She explores the weight that we put on our parents growing up where we expect them to be strong and have everything together all the time. But once we grow up we realise they are just human too and are going through life the same way we are. We blame them for a lot of things but it’s only because we don’t understand just yet. “The older I get the more that I see, my parents aren’t heroes, they’re just like me. And loving is hard, it don’t always work. You just try your best not to get hurt”. The minimalist track graces you with a gentle piano while a strong beat drives the rhythmic touch of the chorus. It’s still very emotive and will tug on your heart strings from the start to the finish. It’s honestly just another smash from an under-appreciated artist who deserves a lot more love because the songs she’s delivering are MASSIVE.
