SINGLE REVIEW: Lucy Neville – Wasting Our Time

Lucy Neville was first introduced to us in 2015 with her moody and dreamy indie-pop EP ‘Lady’ that resonated a similarity with the likes of Ellie Goulding. Over the years she has evolved and grown not just as an artist but also as a young woman and in turn has found a more confident side to her. From then on she has been experimenting deeper and deeper with electronic synths and dance breakdowns whilst still holding onto her complex dreamy pop meets folk vocal tone. Her new single ‘Wasting Our Time’ is the songstresses most experimental track to date and sonically hears her fully immersing herself into this electronic world. Stepping back in time she shines though the 80’s and early 2000’s synths and offers a rhythmic sound that sounds like Jennifer Lopez and Shakira had a love child. (What a fusion!?!) The beat is instantly likeable and stays away from the commercial and generic drop her recent singles have seemed to re-use. Reflecting on how her previous relationship ended she chooses to be happy and continue living life in the best way possible. But at the same time you are still heartbroken, confused and sad and that’s okay. At the end of the day, it’s all apart of life but Lucy Neville will help make you feel a little better about the whole situation with a positive spin.
