SINGLE REVIEW: Lana Del Rey – Venice Bitch

As she prepares for the release of her sixth studio album next year, Lana Del Rey has released two singles to hold fans over in the meantime. The second single hears her delivering a cinematic meets psychedelic pop crossover. ‘Venice Beach’ is her second collaboration with Grammy Award winning producer Jack Antonoff and is also the singer-songwriters longest song yet. At 9 minutes long it’s a little self indulgent and could have easily been reduced. But this adds to the nostalgic and cinematic production as her luscious vocals croon over the simple and soothing melody. The story line is a cute supercut of a past relationship that reflects on the happy moments as time fades and it fizzles out. “Oh God, miss you on my lips. It’s me, your little Venice bitch. On the stoop with the neighborhood kids callin’ out, bang bang, kiss kiss”. This song is very much for her long term fans and whilst most people won’t make it through the 9 minute duration her fans will love every little moment.
