What an all star cast. What great potential. But what great disappointment. Silk City is the collaborative project from Mark Ronson & Diplo and their fourth single hears them steering towards the pop market with one of the genres biggest newcomers. Sadly ‘Electricty’ just doesn’t reach the heights it deserves with a painfully safe production. The electronic 90’s influenced beats are quite predictable and doesn’t elevate the song the way it should. Dua Lipa’s vocal delivery is also quite tame with no real element of experimentation and doesn’t really captivate you past the verses. However the lyrics are quite cute and will have you feeling a little gushy. “Even if I could I wouldn’t turn on you. And I would stop the world for you and I. I wanna let you know, I’ll never let this feeling go. This love has no ceiling, I cannot deny”. The hook sounds like it’s been recycled from a 90’s house track and whilst it is a little nostalgic it also doesn’t feel original at all. Like, where is the experimentation? Where is the big moment that makes you go “WOW”? Because sadly it never comes and you are left feeling severely underwhelmed.
