SINGLE REVIEW: Carrie Underwood – Love Wins

I’m not really sure what’s happening in the Carrie Underwood team at the moment because the country superstar seemed to be on top of her game until her ill-fated accident which saw her take some time from the spotlight and recover from some facial injuries. Since then the singer-songwriter has started promoting her forthcoming sixth studio album which has already become her least hyped album. The lead single ‘Cry Pretty’ was a gimmicky ballad that heard her strip things back to just her vocals. Not a bad thing entirely but it also could’ve been a lot stronger. Her second single ‘Love Wins’ follows in it’s lead with another gimmicky emotive ballad which is a little all over the place. With such a strong and empowering message I really did expect more from this song. I wanted to be uplifted and empowered in such a captivating way but instead I was just a little bored and cringing to the emotional lyrics. “Sometimes it takes a lot of faith to keep believing there will come a day. When the tears and the sadness, the pain and the hate, the struggle, this madness, will all fade away”. The song tackles the current state of the world and how there is a lot of hate being thrown around but at the end of the day only love can win. It’s a message that we need more of in music but sadly it’s delivery is just forgettable.
