SINGLE REVIEW: Bob Evans – Drowning

unnamed

With 15 years in the music industry as a solo artist and an extra 6 years as the lead vocalist of Jebediah, Bob Evans has become one of Australia’s leading storytellers. The Perth based singer-songwriter has had an impressive career that has seen him touring the country more times than you can count. To celebrate his long career he has packaged together a collection of some of his singles and personal favourites from his five studio albums appropriately titled ‘Full Cricle’. The new album will be released on October 6 and to celebrate he has announced a national tour and released a brand new single. ‘Drowning’ hears Kevin Mitchell (aka Bob Evans) returning to his roots and delivering an alternative rock track with slight folk influences. I did expect more of an organic approach for this single with a major folk or acoustic influence but instead he found a good balance of all of his different sounds. The track explores the feeling of being in love but being unsure and not feeling like you are saying everything you should be. “Yeah it feels like I’m drowning for my love”. It grows on you with each listen and perfectly resembles who he is as an artist right now. While this may be the only new track from his upcoming re-packaged album this is a promising look at what album number six may sound like.
