SINGLE REVIEW: RAYE – Friends

UK singer-songwriter RAYE is proving to be an artist to not underestimate. With the breakthrough success of ‘Decline’, and a coveted support slot opening for Rita Ora on her sold out UK and European tour, she is truly gearing up for a massive 2018.

Her EP ‘Side Tape’ may have only dropped 2 months ago but she already has a new single to get you hyped up and prepared for her global domination. ‘Friends’ sees her transforming into a pop star in her own right. This dancehall inspired track hears her transforming her sound and offering one of the catchiest and sassiest hooks of the year.

She reflects on how women should have each others back. but instead we are still seeing a trend of women happily knocking each other down. “We could’ve been, we could’ve been, we could’ve been friends. We could’ve been, well maybe not, well maybe not best friends. But I would have fucked with you and you know you would have too”.

It has an important and empowering sentiment that is delivered in a playful and fun matter. The production enhances that playful vibe with a bold delivery of dancehall meets electronic and RNB beats. It will instantly have you moving, grooving and dancing along while waving your finger around sassily. This is quite the departure to her previous material but it works really well, and it’s a bonified TUNE.
