Her debut single “There For You” heard her channeling a Lana Del Rey esque vibe mixed with the pop production styling of Dua Lipa but don’t get fooled, Eves Karydas is no wannabe. The now London based singer-songwriter knows exactly who she is as an artist and is delivering strong pop song after strong pop song. We were first introduced to Eves Karydas in 2015 when she dominated the indie-pop scene with the cool project Eves The Behavior. Now she’s taken back her name with a new solo project that is radio ready and a little more pop focused. Her new single ‘Couch’ is an empowering track about the confidence you can find in yourself after a small intimate moment with someone. It’s playful, sexy and experimental. She incorporates a slight R&B element that adds to the indie-pop layering. She sounds confident, powerful and you cant help but get excited for what else is to come from the songstress. I recently chatted to Eves to chat about intimate moments, the name change and her upcoming headlining tour. Check out the chat here;
TB: ‘Couch’ is about that confidence you can find in yourself after a small intimate moment with someone. What do you think it is about these small intimate moments that can spark these feelings inside of us?
EK: Acting on the impulse to make the first move with someone is incredibly daunting. So when courage overcomes that fear it’s the best feeling in the world. Because at its core, it’s about having confidence in your own vulnerability. I don’t think there’s anything more validating than that.
TB: When you started working on this new musical project how did you go about making sure it was sonically different to your previous project Eves The Behavior?
EK: To be honest I didn’t think too much about it. I just wanted to create what felt right to me. As a person in my early twenties growing up there are very natural changes that happen in taste and creative output.
TB: In August you will be heading on your first headlining tour for this project so what can people expect from your new live show?
EK: A completely new set, for starters! And it’s really fun and energetic. I’ve made a conscious decision to put down some instruments I used to play so that I can move around more which I LOVE doing. Seriously, dancing is life!
TB: What unreleased song are you most excited to share with the crowd and why?
EK: ‘Wildest Ones’. It’s the only ballad I play, and a very special song to me. I think it’s a lovely moment in the set.
TB: You’ve been living in London for a little while now so have you been keeping up with the scene over there quite a bit? Who is a British artist you think we should check out and get acquainted with?
EK: I’m really into Nina Nesbitt. She debuted a couple of years ago but just returned after a hiatus. Her new music is SO good!
TB: Lets play a little game when you answer these questions with the first thing that comes to mind.
EK: Okay!
TB: If I could have any superpower it would be…
EK: Teleportation
TB: The emoji that best describes me is…
EK: The pink hibiscus flower!
TB: If I could form a supergroup with any other band or artist it would be…
EK: James Bay. And we would sing beautiful ballads together
TB: Most mornings I…
EK: Don’t sleep in
TB: The most unexpected thing on my rider is…
EK: Ryan Gosling. You can thank my drummer, Dave Jenkins Jnr for that
