SINGLE REVIEW: Laura Roy – Temporary

I was first introduced to the positive pop vibes of Laura Roy in 2016 with her impressive debut EP which showed a lot of raw potential. Fast forward two years and the Canadian songstress has returned with a mature new single which hears her heading towards a slightly different direction. “Temporary” is less Carly Rae Jepsen pop and is more Demi Lovato inspired soul-pop meets Kehlani’s R&B vibes and that is a very exciting thing. It explores her desire to get more out of a situation with a love interest and no longer be easily replaceable. “I wanna be, I wanna be more than ordinary. I wanna be, I wanna be more than temporary”. It has an emotional undertone on top of the sultry vibes that this song lays down and will have you feeling all the feels. The beat is very low key and transports you to an underground R&B lounge. It’s a song that continuously grows on you with each listen and perfectly reintroduces her to listeners because this song is very different to her previous material. But it’s a sound that works so well with her vocal delivery and I can’t wait to hear just how she implements the sound to the rest of her upcoming EP.
