SINGLE REVIEW: Backstreet Boys – Don’t Go Breaking My Heart
Backstreet’s back, alright! And yes, it was necessary for me to start the review off with that pun because that is exactly how I feel about this song. In a world where comebacks are cool and boy bands are currently missing it was only appropriate that the ultimate boy band made their comeback. “Don’t Go Breaking My Heart” is their first single since their 2013 record “In A World Like This” and comes at a perfect time as the five piece are currently half way through their Las Vegas residency contract. What I do love about The Backstreet Boys is that they will never change. They will always continue to deliver cheesy pop moments and whilst their sound has got a little more modern over the years their boyband roots are still heavily in tact and they aren’t at all trying to be anyone they’re not. This new song is driven by a new wave of synths that perfectly intertwines with a simple piano arrangement. The chorus then drops this really cool groove that is funky, fresh and still very them. “Baby, don’t go breaking my heart, breaking my heart. Cause it’s the only one I got”. The song gradually grows and adds in bigger synths and creates this big and cool pop moment. It holds onto the roots of Backstreet Boy’s old music and reimagines what their sound is slightly. It’s cheesy but ultimately fun and cute. It’s exactly what you want from them and you won’t feel ashamed blasting this while driving down the highway.
