We were first introduced to Sam Bluer briefly last year when he was featured on the vibey Oh Boy single “Love Me Right”. He impressed with his smooth, dream-like vocals that instantly had you intrigued and wanting to hear more. Sadly the wait has been quite long to finally hear his original solo material but his debut single proves that it was well worth the wait. “Shift” is an experimental indie-pop meets electronic track which is very experimental and different to anything which is out at the moment. It has has a DIY structure which expands on the experimental nature of the song and hears him delivering a very seductive and unique sound. The track looks at not wanting to be tied down by someone and enjoying the perks of one night stands. “Shift your connection off the typical. A million directions for where we can go. If your intention is to have it all, shift, oh, shift, oh”. Melodically he manages to offer a soulful vocal delivery whilst also being seductive and mysterious. He does have a slight Troye Sivan vibe to him but he is noticeably a lot more mature and seductive straight out of the gate. The Melbourne singer-songwriter is an artist you want to get familiar with because he has the potential to be the next big indie-pop thing.
