Julia Michaels quickly cemented herself as one of the best newcomers of 2017 with her breakthrough hit single “Issues” and her massive Clean Bandit collaboration “I Miss You”. Her debut EP was an honest and impressive collection of pop tracks that showcased why she is one of the most sought after songwriters of right now. She’s worked with the likes of Justin Bieber, Britney Spears, Selena Gomez and Gwen Stefani and continuously delivers honest, heartbreaking and empowering tracks. And her first single of 2018 is no different. “Jump” is a RNB meets pop track that perfectly describes the feeling of taking a leap of faith and falling in love with someone even though you know you shouldn’t. “Cause all I do is jump right into your arms. Every time I see you I just wrap myself around you. Jump into something real.Even though I’m cautious, I just like the way it feels. When it’s us, baby, when it’s us you make me forget that I’m not ready for love”. Sonically it’s quite different to her previous solo material as it’s less focused and hears her experimenting with RNB and hip hop elements. But the chorus does have a pop polish that makes it perfect for radio and will have it instantly stuck in your head. When I saw that there was a rap feature on this track I was unexcited and unsurprised because every pop track that hits radio recently seems to have one. But I was surprised with Trippie Redd’s verse because it was actually decent and brought a cool contrast to Julia’s smooth pop vocals. “Jump” is yet another fiery track for Julia Michaels that showcases another side to the songstress and will have you further falling in love with her.
