SINGLE REVIEW: Jess Glynne – I’ll Be There
“Don’t Be So Hard On Yourself” is a bonefied banger and one of the most underrated pop songs of 2016 so I’m still trying to provide justice for the UK songstress and I was hoping her new single would allow that to happen. However “I’ll Be There” is a little mediocre at best. As a lead single you expect a big fiery pop moment that either introduces a new sound the artist is experimenting with or just a big radio ready hook that is going to played on heavy rotation. And sadly this track is neither of these two things. Instead its a predictable and safe track that recycles the sound her debut album introduced. If she was comfortably going to sit with this production she could’ve at least delivered a big soul pop moment like “Don’t Be So Hard On Yourself” or “Hold My Hand” instead of something that sounds more like an album filler than anything else. However her vocals are as strong as ever and incorporate some cool vocal runs and techniques that will have you singing along and embarrassingly attempting to copy. And the lyrics are super cute and cheesy as they deliver a little message of hope to the listener. “When you need a little love, I got a little love to share. Yeah, I’m gonna, I’m gonna, I’m gonna come through. You’ll never be alone, I’ll be there for you”. I just wish her production wasn’t so predictable or average and delivered a moment that made her stand out compared to all of the other pop tracks that were released today.
