New Zealand newcomer Matthew Young is one of Lorde’s favourite artists and he’s proving to the world with every new release just why that is. His new single “Fix Me Up” is a moody track that ignites the flame and delivers an experimental and explorative production. The song looks at being dependent on a lover and how it can be a good and a bad thing because we are all human. “So fix me up, I’m holding out for just your type of love”. The production is similar to Troye Sivan’s recent material with its DIY feel and slick pop polish over the top during the chorus. The song changes and evolves throughout the duration with the inclusion of different synths and crunching guitars which gives it a grittier feel. This is a song that will grow on you with each listen and will have you pressing replay so you can experience all the feels again. The strongest thing about this song is how it grows and if he continues to deliver these powerful songs then his upcoming EP “Fruit” is going to be a must listen.
