So I’m just going to say it. Thandi Phoenix is one of Australia’s best live performers and for some reason she is so underrated. Her experimental fusion of rhythmic pop has impressed me over the years with her singles “Standing Too Close”, “Come Around” and “Tell Me Where The Lovers Have Gone”. She’s toured the country alongside the likes of Rudimental, Jhene Aiko, Tinashe and Vera Blue and she’s not showing any signs of slowing down anytime soon. She’s just teamed up with Rudimental for her new single “My Way” which has been a fan favourite in her live set for a little while. This is definitely her most commercial sounding single yet and hears her unleashing a dancehall inspired sound. With it being produced by Rudimental I don’t think it comes by much surprise that this song sounds the way it does but you can’t help but let out a little smile when you listen to it. It is a little cheesy during the chorus but the song is about standing up and believing in yourself so it always was going to be a little cheesy. Her vocals are a lot more polished on this song compared to her gritty raspiness of her previous releases. It’s super catchy and has serious potential to breakthrough to mainstream radio with it’s upbeat appeal.
