SINGLE REVIEW: Sigrid – Raw

Sigrid

2017 saw Sigrid become my favourite pop newcomer and also saw her being crowned the winner of the BBC Sound Of 2018 Poll. The Norwegian songstress continued to impress with her singles “Don’t Kill My Vibe”, “Plot Twist” and “Strangers” which showcased her vulnerable vocals, emotional songwriting and polished pop production. She’s just finished her first Australian tour after performing at Sydney City Limits and has just kicked off a massive sold out European and American tour. So yeah, 2018 is going to be her year. To coincide with the massive tour she has just announced the release of her next EP which will see her releasing a new song each week in a drip feed format. “Raw” is the first of the new material to be released and is a track that has been a fan favourite in her live set for the past year. The intimate track addresses vulnerabilities when dating someone and being afraid of showing too much that you scare them off. “If I show I’m fragile would you go ahead and find somebody else? And if I act too tough know that I care bout you”. It’s a very honest and relatable storyline that sees your heart breaking and being mended together by her soft and emotional vocal delivery. The live version of this song is a lot more raw (no pun intended) and sees this studio version adding in slightly darker synths and production. It’s quite moody but works very well for this track. At this stage Sigrid can do no wrong and I LOVE it.
