I’ve gone through my hating The Chainsmokers faze but it doesn’t mean I’m completely on board with their predictable pop-dance crossover yet. However as of recently they are getting more experimental, DIY and emotional which makes me question that if in 2018 they will completely win me over. Their new single “Everybody Hates Me” is definitely a step in the right direction. The moody and honest track confronts their anxiety’s surrounding their fame and the negativity which surrounds them. (Sorry, I am guilty of this hate-fest). “I walk into the club like, everybody hates me. I’m talkin’ to myself, shit, now they think I’m crazy”. The beat breakdown is less commercial and is more directed towards the same spectrum as “Sick Boy” and “You Owe Me” which is a lot better than the tropical-pop they kept regurgitating. While it’s still not a home-run pop-dance moment it is a lot stronger and makes you a lot more interested in wanting to listen to them than before. But it’s also important to note that this song is not perfect and nor is it a smash hit. Bit it will have you singing along to yourself and making it look like YOU are crazy.
