“Love, Simon” has become one of my most anticipated movie releases of 2018 and for a really good reason. It’s so exciting seeing an LGBT movie getting so much buzz as well as a major cinema release deal. But the soundtrack is shaping up to be just as exciting with Bleacher’s frontman Jack Antonoff curating and producing the whole thing. “Love Lies” is the second official single for this release and hears Khalid collaborating with Fifth Harmony songstress Normani. This is Normani’s first debut effort and what a song to kick it off. It hears Khalid continuing his signature sound with smooth RNB vocals along with a heavy beat to drive the verses. For the chorus the two vocalists harmonise and bring the production down to focus on their raw talent. Lyrically the track explores meeting someone and instantly having that deep connection with them. “It’s hard for me to open up, I’ll admit it. You’ve got some shit to say and I’m here to listen”. It’s a song that grows on you and while it’s no “Young, Dumb & Broke” its a sensual and cool track.
