Carlie Hanson was introduced to the world last year with the catchy ‘Why Did You Lie’ and the absolute banger ‘Only One’ which is currently still climbing the charts. The Wisconsin teenager has just dropped her third single which hears her offering a grittier synth sound while still holding onto her pop polish. ‘Us’ tells the story of a couple who are madly in love and are constantly disapproved by other people because they don’t believe the couple will stand the test of time. So Hanson serves a little sass and tells them that she doesn’t care what they think of her. “So fuck it if they don’t like us cause I think we’re fucking righteous. We’re out of our minds, we’re mindless but we don’t mind it”. The grittier synth production takes inspiration from the likes of Dua Lipa and Noah Cyrus who have previously perfected the sound. Compared to her prior singles, whilst this may be darker and edgier it also seems to be a little bit more safe within it’s delivery. ‘Why Did You Lie’ had it’s own very cool production quirks in the second verse which gave the song a different texture and I was waiting for something like this again to lift the track to the next level. But minus that one little commentary remark this song is a strong promise that Carlie Hanson is an artist you definitely need to keep an eye on.
