SINGLE REVIEW: Hailee Steinfeld – Capital Letters

“Fifty Shades Of Freed” unleashed the lead single to their highly anticipated soundtrack last week and they didn’t disappoint with the fiery Rita Ora and Liam Payne collaboration “For You”. However this week they’ve decided to unleash the Hailee Steinfeld and Bloodpop crossover which disappointingly doesn’t have the same affect. “Capital Letters” is a tame electronic pop track which had a lot of potential but instead of channeling the seductive Fifty Shade vibe they instead go towards a gimmicky and safe production. It’s a typical Hailee Steinfeld pop track which isn’t a bad thing but I was just hoping for a bit more riskiness for this soundtrack. It explores the power of love with using a metaphor of capital letters to show this. “For worst or for better. Gonna give it to you in capital letters”. It is a fairly cute and cheesy song which grows on you with each listen. Just not the banger I was expecting from the producer who delivered us the ultimate jam “Friends” last year.
