SINGLE REVIEW: JOY – Smoke Too Much

joy

It has been two years since we’ve had new music from Brisbane based singer-songwriter JOY. In between releases she has been touring the country with the likes of James Bay and Kehlani as well as working on her forthcoming second EP. “Smoke Too Much” is the first taste of where the new music will sonically take her and instead of going towards a completely new direction she’s enhanced the sound you were originally introduced to with a bit more a polished pop hook. Beginning with her angelic vocals, a simple piano arrangement and finger clicks she adds in a beat to drive the verses. The chorus then adds in some polished synths to give you a hook that will have you singing along after the first listen. It’s probably her most commercially friendly song yet and it’s a really exciting re-introduction to her moody and intriguing musical world.
