SINGLE REVIEW: Frida Sundemo – It’s Ok
I truly believe that Sweden is the gift that keeps on giving. That country continues to deliver us some of pop music’s most impressive and game changing newcomers from Robyn, Aviici, Icona Pop, Swedish House Mafia, Tove Lo to Zara Larsson. And it’s time to add another name to that list. Frida Sundemo is an artist that over time as evolved and grown her sound. From having an album exclusively released in Japan to starring in the Hollywood movie “Kill Your Friends” Sundemo has had an impressive start. Her debut international album “Flashbacks & Futures” will be released on October 6 and is a unique concept album that is inspired by space. The new single “It’s Ok” sees the songstress stepping away from the euphoric synth-pop sound “We Are Dreamers” delivered and steps toward the abstract cinematic sound “The Sun” introduced. This track shows a intimate vulnerability in her vocals. You can feel the emotion in every lyric and the pain she feels with every word that falls out of her mouth “This is what it feels like and it’s OK to tear down what’s been a wall. It’s been a wait now this is how life strikes and this is what it feels like to be alive”. The production has this grand symphony sound to it and really enhances the emotion that the lyrics embody. You are instantly transported to a moment where you feel like your world is crumbling all around you and you want to complain but you remember that it’s just life. The lyrical structure is a bit basic but sees the song focusing on the honesty of the lyrics, the raw powerfulness of her vocals and the grand production. The song will leave you feeling a little emotional and intrigued to hear more.
