SINGLE REVIEW: Fifth Harmony – Angel
Ever since Camila Cabello left Fifth Harmony all eyes were on the remaining members to see what would happen next or how they would retaliate. But the girls have kept it classy and while their latest single “Down” may have majorly flopped on the charts they are preparing for the release of their self titled third studio album on August 25. In the meantime they have just released a new promotional single which sees them going towards a darker RNB and EDM sound. “Angel” is a strange song to release as a promotional single because it’s not instantly likeable. It’s actually the opposite. There’s so much going on musically that it’s instantly dis-likeable. It’s not a bad song at all, it just takes a couple of listens to grow on you and to appreciate the new direction. It’s less pop focused song and sees them serving serious attitude mocking an ex lover who was too inconsistent. “When you look at me, what do you see? Open your eyes, I’m more brilliant than you’ll ever be. Who said I was an angel?”. The song was written and produced by Skrillex and Poo Bear (who has worked with Justin Bieber) and the production is on point. While its a bit all over the place, thats how its meant to sound. It’s gritty, dirty and has that sensual side. “Angel” is not a perfect song in any means or will it be deemed as a “hit” but it is a decent track that grows on you.
