SINGLE REVIEW: Macklemore feat. Skylar Grey – Glorious
Macklemore is back but there’s a twist, there’s no Ryan Lewis. Now before you start freaking out, the dynamic duo haven’t split they’ve just decided to work on some solo projects which is quite understandable after working together for 9 years straight. “Glorious” is the lead single from Macklemores forthcoming solo album and it’s a big one. Teaming up with Skylar Grey on this track he offers a beat and rap flow during the verses which is very similar to “Can’t Hold Us”. He spits about his successes and how far he has come to be where he is today after battling all his demons. “I heard you die twice, once when they bury you in the grave and the second time is the last time that somebody mentions your name. So when I leave here on this earth, did I take more than I gave? Did I look out for the people or did I do it all for fame?” . Grey acts as his inner voice during the chorus and reassures him that he is doing exactly what he is meant to be doing in this life. “I was born for this, born for this. It’s who I am, how could I forget? I made it through the darkest part of the night and now I see the sunrise. Now I feel glorious, glorious”. It’s quite the empowering track without feeling cliche or cheesy. It doesn’t have any gimmicks like “Downtown” or “Thrift Shop” and is just purely a feel good track.
