SINGLE REVIEW: Calvin Harris feat. Pharrell Williams, Katy Perry & Big Sean – Feels
I’m really unsure what Calvin Harris is doing right now. He’s always delivered us the big club anthems that have become some of the biggest dance tracks of the last 10 years but now he’s deciding to be a bit more experimental. Don’t get me wrong, I’m all about experimenting with different sounds and reinventing yourself as an artist but he seems to be drastically stepping away from the dance scene. “Feels” is the fourth single from his upcoming fifth studio album “Funk Wav Bounces Vol 1” and continues this rhythmic ska sound he’s been injecting into his music. “Slide” was a TUNE but that’s where it should’ve started and ended. This song gives us lacklustre verses from Pharrell Williams which honestly sound like everything from his forgettable last album. I started to tune out just hoping that Katy Perry would give us a hook worth remembering but I was let down yet again. It’s not an awful chorus but it’s not brilliant, her vocals just glide through the lyrics. “Don’t be afraid to catch feels. Ride drop top and chase thrills. I know you ain’t afraid to pop pills. Baby, I know you ain’t scared to catch feels, feels with me”. And then in an attempt to mix it up he throws in a verse from Big Sean which feels a bit misplaced amongst the rest of the song. It’s a forgettable track from an album I’m really scared to listen to.
