It’s officially one week until Lorde unleashes her sophomore studio “Melodrama” to the world and to celebrate the announcement of her world tour she has released one more song before the big day. She originally premiered “Sober” at Coachella but the studio version takes the song to new heights. Experimenting with darker synths and a different tempo to her usual material its a bit more euphoric and arena ready. The song looks at her nights getting drunk and just wanting to dance to forget about the heartbreak and pain in her life. It’s a re-occuring storyline with her new music which will get elaborated on the new album. “These are the games of the weekend. We pretend that we just don’t care, but we care. But what will we do when we’re sober?”. The production follows the trend of “Green Light” in the sense of it not having a standard or obvious structure. She just plays with melodies, harmonies and cool synths that will be instantly stuck in your head. Every time she releases a new song off this record I’m like “OMG this is her best song yet” and yet again I find myself saying those words. So it’s safe to say “Melodrama” may just be the album of the year.
