SINGLE REVIEW: Martin Garrix feat. Troye Sivan – There For You

It was the Coachella collaboration that almost broke the internet. Martin Garrix premiered the next instalment of his pop releases with guest vocalist Troye Sivan and after waiting patiently for weeks we have finally got a studio version. “There For You” follows the structure of Garrix’s previous singles “Scared To Be Lonely” and “In The Name Of Love” with an emotive storyline, moody synths and a big breakdown. It’s a sound which is becoming a bit predictable but luckily this format works and having a male vocalist gives it a somewhat different texture. Sivan’s vocals are soothing and calm which translate well with the songs lyrics. He reflects on his last year of crazy touring, relationships and the ups and downs while having one constant support in his life; his fans. It’s a cute dedication that will have his fans falling in love all over again. “So when your tears roll down your pillow like a river, I’ll be there for you, I’ll be there for you. When you’re screaming, but they only hear you whisper, I’ll be loud for you”. The production picks up towards the end with a funky little riff while he sings the line “Running, running just to keep my hands on you” over and over. It’s pretty basic for a Martin Garrix pop song but it shows promise of some experimentation and hopefully he will move toward a different pop sound on the next single.
