SINGLE REVIEW: Madison Beer – Dead
If you’re a pop music lover then Madison Beer was a name you heard quite a bit about in 2013 after Justin Bieber signed her to his label but from then on she kind of just disappeared. She put more time into her social media than releasing music that you forgot she was even signed. That may have been a blessing in disguise though because she’s just dropped her comeback single and it is a mature coming of age track that truly makes her a name worthy of not forgetting. “Dead” is a vividly beautiful mid tempo RNB ballad that offers a bit of attitude, a whole lot of emotion and some serious vocals. She goes 0 to 100 in a second and reminds you why she was signed in the first place. She adds all these little ad-libs, random high notes and gives an array of vocal techniques to show you that she’s serious. There are no production gimmicks or big beat breakdowns that see her trying to compete against the “summer pop queens” which was a very smart move. This song is just her being brutally honest and questioning why her ex said all these things to her but didn’t mean them. “You say you can’t live without me so why aren’t you dead yet? Why you still breathing? And you say you can’t live without me then why aren’t you dead yet? Why do you say that?”. I truly didn’t expect to like this song but I was completely blown away and impressed not only by her raw talent but at how well executed this song was. Definitely one not to forget.
