SINGLE REVIEW: Miley Cyrus – Malibu
It’s the comeback everyone was either excited or worried about depending what side of Team Miley you were sitting on after her odd Dead Petz era. But either way I know you clicked play on this track as soon as it got released even if it was just because you were hoping it would be a trainwreck. Luckily for Miley Cyrus “Malibu” is a a grand slam pop-rock ballad that sees her returning to her roots and experimenting with a folk sound that she has recently re-fallen in love with. The song quickly becomes the soundtrack to your summer road trips where you can just imagine your hair flowing in the wind while driving down a coastal road. And it also becomes an anthem for rekindled lovers, giving those unrequited lovers hope where she candidly opens up saying that she never thought her and Liam would be together again. “I never would’ve believed you if three years ago you told me I’d be here writing this song. But here I am, next to you. The sky is so blue, in Malibu”. Her vocals are wholesome and powerful and show that raw talent that anyone that has seen her live knows that she holds. It is a cute pop track that isn’t gimmicky and doesn’t rely on stunts or effects to become a hit. It does it on it’s own. It’s genuine, honest, beautiful and so catchy. It’s the perfect comeback for what is going to be a truly exciting era for the songstress.
