SINGLE REVIEW: Samantha Jade – Nothing Without You
It’s been over a year since we have had new Samantha Jade music so you would think there would be some hype made about her comeback. However on Friday her new single “Nothing Without You” was surprisingly released almost unknowingly. Seems like a strange release tactic and weirder that the songstress hasn’t even posted about it. She is about to hit the road with Boyzlife in Europe so it makes sense to drop a new song but coming back with a minimalistic ballad is a bold choice. This song focuses on her strong and captivating vocals that soar through high notes in the chorus. And then your attention is drawn to the lyrics and while they are beautiful and relatable you can’t help but automatically be remembered of another song. “All of the diamonds in the world, don’t mean a thing if I can’t be your girl. Yeah I may have everything, but oh, it ain’t anything. I’m nothing without you”. With a similar melody and similar lyrics this song sounds too much like Alicia Keys “If I Ain’t Got You” and it’s not like you can pretend you don’t know the song or hear the resemblance because it is one of the most famous songs in the last 14 years. So automatically the wow factor is gone and I can’t help but feel like she’s gone back to releasing covers and that makes me sad. Her international potential is crazy but this song just doesn’t show it and you can’t help but think they accidentally released a b-side.
