SINGLE REVIEW: Lucas Nord – Mess It Up

I question daily why I live in Australia and not in Sweden because they continue to keep delivering some of the best current pop music. Look at the likes of Tove Lo, Urban Cone, Icona Pop, Robyn, Avicii and Zara Larsson. I think I just also named my dream music festival but anyway there is a new Swedish name to join that list. Lucas Nord is a name you probably won’t be familiar with but after you read this review you are going to want to be. He’s been creating this unique alt-dance-pop fusion since 2013 and the fact I’ve actually heard his material before and hadn’t jumped on the bandwagon until now makes me feel embarrassed. Anyways, “Mess It Up” is his new single and it’s VERY good. Like I mean INSANELY good. It’s a dance track you’ll want on heavy rotation and it’s not your typical cliche and predictable dance track (shoutout to The Chainsmokers). It’s inventive and every time I hear the synth breakdown I genuinely get excited. The production is strategically smart with a gradual build up similar to Chet Faker and Flume’s “go to structure”. His vocals show a diversity with layering smooth harmonies in the chorus to give you a very memorable moment. “Mess It Up” should be instantly added to your playlists quickly followed by the rest of his discography. You can thank me later.
