SINGLE REVIEW: The Chainsmokers feat. Coldplay – Something Just Like This

“Paris” and “Closer” were great songs and I gave The Chainsmokers all the props they deserved but it’s no secret that they are VERY overrated. All their beat drops sound the same, their structures are generic and their songs just don’t have that long term potential. They focus on the “now” and the “current” and not what is going to give them a long lasting career. But hey that’s their decision and if they just want a quick dollar then it’s working for them. But their new single offers a rare opportunity collaborating with one of the biggest bands in the world, Coldplay. “Something Just Like This” should be a career defining moment but instead it just lacks being anything other than generic. Chris Martin’s vocals are incredible as always and perfectly tells the story of a relationship that doesn’t need to be superhumanly to be perfect. The verses just sound like every Coldplay song from their last two albums and then the chorus break down sounds just every Chainsmokers song to be created. So they milsewell have just released a remix of “A Sky Full Of Stars” and been done with it. However it does have major radio potential and will comfortably sit on the charts for a while purely just because of star power. But really there are more deserving pop/edm songs out right now to listen to like Zedd & Alessia Cara or Cashmere Cat & Camila Cabello.
