SINGLE REVIEW: Linkin Park feat. Kiiara – Heavy

Linkin Park are a band with some seriously massive songs in their discography. Being a rock band with mainstream appeal they have crossed into the pop market a couple of times with “Leave Out All The Rest”, “Shadow Of The Day” and “New Divide”. But with the release of their forthcoming seventh studio album they are taking a massive risk because they have never gone THIS pop before. “Heavy” is pop ballad that sees the band collaborating with rising pop songstress Kiiara for an interesting duet. I still don’t know how I entirely feel about this track because I think I would like it more if I didn’t know it was Linkin Park. It just feels like they are selling out and are doing whatever it takes to have another top 10 single because it has been a long time since they have had serious chart traction. Kiiara’s vocals are pure and beautiful and compliment Chester’s vocals with soothing harmonies between the two. The electronic beat in the verses sounds like it was taken from The Chainsmokers song “Closer” and that confuses me. For the final chorus it finally builds up to that Linkin Park fulfilled sound that we are somewhat used to but honestly it just took too long. Radio will probably flog this song to death and it will comfortably sit somewhere in the top 10 but just ask yourself; does this song REALLY sound like Linkin Park to you?
