SINGLE REVIEW: Mariah Carey feat. YG – I Don’t
Coinciding with the season finale of her Reality TV Series “Mariah’s World” she has “candidly” opened up about her public split with media mogul James Packer. In classic Mariah fashion she has re-written her break up and dropped a coveted new single to show that she is doing A-okay. “I Don’t” is a slow RNB jam that covers infidelity, empowerment and moving on. “Cause when you love someone you just don’t treat them bad. You messed up all we had, probably think I’m coming back but I don’t”. Her vocal delivery is as strong as ever and has smooth harmonies that will have you reliving all your 90’s fantasies. Her brilliant slight tone of shade plays up to the diva brand she has built for herself and perfectly puts a spotlight on her TV show and the storylines surrounding it. The song has real commercial potential that previously her recent material hasn’t had. Mariah Carey is a name you know, but music wise if you asked me to sing the last song I knew of hers from the top of my head it would probably be “Obsessed”. Im usually not a fan of rap features on a already strong track but YG defy’s those odds and delivers a vocal delivery which adds a different texture and strengthens the overall sound. “I Don’t” isn’t a career defining comeback but it is a track that makes you sit up and go “Okay, Mariah Carey is back”.
