SINGLE REVIEW: Halsey – Not Afraid Anymore
As the release of Fifty Shades Darker creeps closer the details of the soundtrack have been finally unveiled and it’s ticking all the boxes of our guilty pleasures. With new tracks by Tove Lo, John Legend, Sia, Nick Jonas and Nicki Minaj there is legitimately something for everyone promised. However leading the pack is the fiery “Not Afraid Anymore” by Halsey which offers a dark production similar to “Hold Me Down” with a EDM twist. Her vocals command your attention and soar with a powerful delivery in the hook. However during the bridge she surprises with a playful pop delivery that offers a different texture to the song. The lyrics are very relatable to the storyline, exploring the feelings of giving into temptation “Crawling underneath my skin, sweet talk with a hint of sin, begging you to take me. Devil underneath your grin, sweet thing, bet you play to win, heaven gonna hate me”. It’s the first taste of new music from Halsey’s forthcoming sophomore studio album and if this is anything to go by then my body is ready. Whether you love or dislike Hasley I have a feeling this song is going to quickly become a satisfying guilty pleasure of yours.
