SINGLE REVIEW: Katy Steele – Where’s The Laughter
Ever since I first heard about Katy Steele’s solo album I have been un-chill about my excitement towards this project. After witnessing her debut solo shows last year and hearing a glimpse to what this experimental record would offer I was intrigued to hear more. But then she fell silent. A year has passed and we are finally receiving the first offering from her debut album “Human” which slated for release on October 21 along with an announcement of intimate shows this September. “Where’s The Laughter” is a indie-pop gem that experiments with loop pedals and has her creating this unique sound which builds the foundations for the rest of the album. Her distinctive vocals are in full force and compliment the abstract sound. it’s safe to say she still knows how to write a catchy hook as this one will be stuck in your head after a first listen. The song explores the moment you let go and allow yourself to look back at the things that have happened previously and find the strength to laugh. “Where’s the laughter? Where’s the fever? Where’s the moment? Where’s the heartbeat?”. It’s an overall strong solo debut for the songstress and while it will have you instantly bopping and singing along it will also have you thinking and relating to the questioning lyrics.
