SINGLE REVIEW: Tove Lo – Cool Girl

2016 has seen Tove Lo feature on a lot of tracks but what we have been lacking from the songstress is new solo material since her incredible debut album “Queen Of The Clouds”. The wait is now over with her sophomore album “Lady Wood” scheduled for October 28 and the lead single has just been dropped and yet again it’s relatable as fuck. “Cool Girl” is an infectious and vibe-y dance track that was inspired by the film “Gone Girl”. The lyrics look at pretending to be someone you’re not and sacrificing your ideals to make someone like you and realising that you don’t want any of that. The structure of the song perfectly captures that thought process from “being okay” with how you’re being treated to transitioning to knowing you deserve better. “No, let’s not put a label on it let’s keep it fun. We don’t put a label on it so we can run free. I wanna be free like you”. The Production begins with saturated mellow synths that compliment her haunting vocal delivery before leading into a beat drop that launches a fiery and confident hook that your weekend nights out are going to be all about. Within a few listens you will be obsessed with this song and remembering why “Queen Of The Clouds” was one of the best albums of 2014.
