SINGLE REVIEW: Katy Perry – Rise

While everyone was waiting for Britney Spears to drop her new single on Friday it was Katy Perry who decided to send everyone into a frenzy when she surprised attacked with a new single. “Rise” is the offical anthem for the US broadcast of the 2016 Olympics and this electronic power ballad gives you nostalgic and empowering vibes. This quite a cliche song for the Olympics as it talks about roots, fighting vultures, overcoming and rising but it just works. “When the fire’s at my feet again and the vultures all start circling. They’re whispering you’re out of time but still I rise. This is no mistake, no accident, when you think the final nail is in think again. Don’t be surprise I will still rise”. The production is quite dark and really needs to be listened through headphones to fully embody the full sound that she’s trying to master. Lyrically and vocally this is the sequel to “Roar” but it has a bit more emotional value to it. It is important to know that this is not the lead single for her forthcoming fourth studio album so if you’re reading this review complaining that it’s not a “pop banger” then you calm your horses and shut up. “Rise” is a feel good empowering song that is not just perfect for the Olympics but also for when you’re going through dark times and need something to help you push through. Katy Perry coming to save the day yet again.
