SINGLE REVIEW: Ellie Goulding – On My Mind

Ellie Goulding has surprisingly become pop’s new poster girl and that ain’t a bad thing at all. With her third studio album “Delirium” due to be released on November 6, she’s unleashed a fierce new pop focused sound that will resume her reign at the top of the charts. “On My Mind” is an experimental pop track that dabbles in EDM and reggae rock elements making this one COOL and unique banger. The hook ignites a vibey breakdown that will have you wanting to dance, hard. “You don’t mess with love you mess with the truth. And I know I shouldn’t say it but my heart don’t understand why I got you on my mind”. Her vocals are easily recognizable and showcase the raspy range that she’s become well known for. I didn’t quite know what to expect from this lead single because her sound is constantly evolving and with all her recent collaborations topping the charts it was no surprise that the EDM influence returned. Lyrically the song sounds like a response to Ed Sheeran’s “Don’t” which is allegedly about Goulding. She has already said that this song is not about one person but some of the lines and references are too uncanny to go unnoticed. It looks at having someone on your mind that you don’t quite understand why they are but it’s super relatable and will be undoubtedly quoted all over social media. I do kind of miss the indie-pop girl who rocked an acoustic guitar in 2010 but you can’t deny that this song is a TUNE. #TurnItUp #Yasss
