SINGLE REVIEW: Icona Pop – Emergency

Hailing from Sweden, Icona Pop are one of the most underrated pop/dance acts in the music industry. This duo are responsible for the smash hit “I Love It” (Featuring Charli XCX) and the infectious “All Night”, “We Got The World” and “Girlfriend”. It’s almost impossible to go out clubbing and not hear one of their songs remixed by your local DJ’s and with their catchy hooks it not hard to understand why. Last year they brought out the cool track “Get Lost” which failed to make a dent on the charts or radio and while it was super catchy the problem was that it’s too similar to what they had already released. They returned to the studio and have got a new song ready with a new sound and cool vibes. “Emergency” is a collaboration with Erik Hassle and sees the big EDM track boasting with trumpets and delivering a sound that is very IN right now. The concept is very basic but it does what it sets out to do, and that is to get stuck in your head. The girls use simple harmonies in the verses to put their classic Icona Pop stamp on the song and then Erik takes over the chorus with a hook that will set clubs off. “This is emergency, Call an ambulance come rescue me. Everybody in this bitch if you wanna get up, get down like this”. With their sophomore studio album on the way it’s time to get excited to hear more music from these two ladies soon.
