SINGLE REVIEW: Little Mix – Black Magic

It’s been a little while since we’ve had new music from Little Mix and after the release of their mediocre second album “Salute” they have returned to a more pop influenced sound. “Black Magic” is a decent pop track that relies on gimmicky lyrics and a catchy hook to appeal to their young fan base. “Take a sip of my secret potion, I’ll make you fall in love. For a spell that can’t be broken, one drop should be enough. Boy you belong to me, I got the recipe and it’s called black magic”. However the major flaw of this song is that is has stolen the same melody structure and beat to Jason Derulo’s recent hit “Want To Want Me”. From the first listen of “Black Magic” I immediately started singing along with Derulo’s hit. With the same guitar riff and bubblegum influenced hook, when you hear it it’s so obvious and slightly embarrassing. As a standalone “Black Magic” is a good, fun and strong attempt at breaking through to mainstream media again but with stronger songs in their discography I think this one will sink pretty quickly.

  1. Their album wasn’t mediocre at all… I used to like your reviews, but I love LM so much that I just can’t.
